The Centre for Civil Education invites you to get acquainted with the new exhibition "Contemporary Lithuanian Poetry: Poems in the City". The exhibition uniquely presents the works of 36 Lithuanian poets of different generations. The idea to host the exhibition came to the Vilnius Review team of the Lithuanian literary magazine in English, and the stimulus to organize it was enhanced by the four-year cycle of poetry videos.
Based on the collected visual and textual material, the exhibition prepared by the designer Akvilė Paukštytė consists of several parts: a map, poems, videos, graphic elements and a magnetic poetry puzzle that is sure to indulge your mind in creativity.
“We started to create the exhibition from the essential element – the filmed material, which includes everything: image, creation, characters, city. My goal was to present it in a way so that the future visitors of the exhibition could stop, get closer, and then get to know the poets, maybe even try to create”, says Akvilė.
“It is a kind of poetic geography, because the poets note the meaningful and important places to them in their poems. In addition, the visitor will be exposed to a rather detailed panorama of contemporary poetry – poets of different generations and styles”, said Marius Burokas, the editor-in-chief of Vilnius Review magazine.
According to one of the creators and curators of the exhibition, literary critic and writer Saulius Vasiliauskas, during the creation of the exhibition was considered how to present poetry to a wider audience. We also thought about schools, because the Lithuanian language and literature subject programme lacks authors and their texts that reflect the current poetry: "This exhibition provides an opportunity to touch the literary news, the live transformation of poetry", he says.
The Centre for Civil Education invites you to visit the exhibition and get acquainted with the diversity of contemporary Lithuanian literature.
