Identity

undefined

Who are we—bodies, faces, names, memories, societies? It may seem intuitive to define ourselves through stable identifiers such as our country of birth, our parents, or the color of our eyes. Yet sociologists argue that part of our identity is constantly changing. This includes our subcultures, political views, interests, and even our mood today. These cultural characteristics are often more powerful in connecting societies, revealing that what binds a nation together is not so much our genetics as the names and meanings we assign to ourselves.

The interactive work "Pavadinti akis" (eng. Naming Eye) by a young creative team invites visitors to look at themselves anew and to build bridges of commonality that connect societies. Here, artificial intelligence examines the most stable part of your body—the iris of your eye—and generates a constantly shifting characterization created specifically for you in the form of an alternative identity card. In this card, the face is replaced by the iris, and the name by a haiku. By comparing your card with those of other visitors, you will discover poetic similarities with one another and move beyond the limits of biological definitions.
