Celebrating Lithuania‘s Centenary, the Centre for Civil Education presents a unique exhibition „Unforgettable Futures: Visions for Lithuania‘s Centenary“. While using the most innovative technologies, each visitor can dive into an unforgetable journey, where 100 years of Lithuanian history are presnted in 45 minutes.
History that you will not find in textbooks
During the creation process, historians found out many futuristic and courageous ideas of visionaires. Some of them were even too innovative for a certain period, while some would definately put a smile on ones face. According to the exhibition curator Rosita Garškaitė, “One of the most interesting ideas was the search for Lithuanian Edisson. This process encouraged the spread of new invention copywriting, that revealed the dreams, fantasies and desires of the people who lived in the interwar period”. Even though not all the visions were implemented, they can be sen as an inspiring example for future generations. “One of the best known as well as still important example – a Lithuanian emergency plan, created by Kazys Pakštas, who offered to move Lithuania to Angola”, the exhibition coordinator says.
Unique and inspiring presentation
Tablets, that have already become a marking sign of the Centre for Civil Education, are just a part of all the new and innovative technologies used for this exhibition. Large visualisations and special soundtracks will allow visitors to experience the expectations from an interwar period, feel the viciousness of the Second World War, boredom of Soviet regime and high spirits from the Lithuanian Reform Movement Sąjūdis times.
All these innovations were brought by a team of architects and designers. “We not only wanted to make this exhibition innovative, but inspire people to create their own visons as well. That‘s why we created a very cosy and relaxing space – light effects, mirrors, graphic animations are just a few of all the pleasant things that one can find here”, Processoffice architect Rokas Kilčiauskas says.
Exhibition is free of charge but booking is required
Atypical exhibition format draws a few rules: visitors are recommended to book a place in advance (via writing an e-mail registracija.vpc@prezidentas.lt); one session allows up to 35 people. As always, visiting the Centre for Civil Education is free of charge as well. The exhibition is also available in English for foreign visitors and there‘s a special educational programme under its way for our youngest visitors. The shows are also hearing impaired friendly.
